The devastation in Oklahoma City is unbelievable. We spoke with an Oklahoman who is actually in Fresno right now, Oklahoma City Red Hawks broadcaster Alex Freedman. Freedman and the Red Hawks are playing the Grizzlies this week.
Alex says the players are following the devastation. Although Oklahoma City is not any of their hometown, they do live there six months out of the year and have family living there. One Grizzlies player, C Jackson Williams, is from Oklahoma. Fortunately, everyone in the Red Hawks family is accounted for.

Today is election day in the state senate district 16. Democrat Leticia Perez may be the favorite because the voter registration numbers favor her. She's been on the show twice (top Republican Andy Vidak declined to be interviewed). She is running this ad on Spanish radio stations.
Our official Power Talk translator told us the ad is saying Republicans don't want Latinos to vote. Huh? Funny isn't saying that in English.

Jacky Parks, president of the Fresno Police Officers Association (aka the union) joined the show. He noted that he is not in uniform, so he can answer any question (unlike Chief Dyer yesterday. Dyer wore his uniform which state law precludes him advocating for any ballot measure, i.e. Measure G). We talked about negotiations with the city and his thoughts on Measure G. *** |
Jacky also brought up a vote the council is taking Thursday regarding funding the building of an underpass where a DUI driver (former Central HS basketball coach Loren LeBeau) killed young Donovan Maldonado.
Yes, it's tragic. But, is this a good use of funds? It's a $1.5 million project for a city that is supposed to be broke. Would this be on the council agenda if it was some kid who died in the southeast part of the city, killed by a less prominent criminal?

Months ago, we reported on Nexstar purchasing both KSEE-24 (NBC) and KGPE-47 (CBS). It was only a matter of time before the two stations and both newsrooms consolidated. It's happening. Next: layoffs.
