Fresno held the State of Downtown today. Among the topics of discussion: opening up Fulton Mall to auto traffic.  I have a piece of advice to Mayor Ashley Swearengin before she spends public funds: don't! It's a waste of money and we'll probably get it wrong anyway.

Other cities have gotten it right. They put a river in downtown. In order to get anyone downtown, you have to clean it up.

Callers are unhappy with downtown. Parking, filth, lack of anything people really want to do, etc.

It's a battle of governors. Jerry Brown is unhappy of news coverage of Texas' radio campaign to get Golden State businesses to move to the Lone Star state. Gov. Rick Perry's ad (click here to listen) is airing in a few stations around the state.

Is there any surprise why a business would want to flee California?

Stupid law alert: California legislators want to require insurance to buy a gun. They liken it to auto insurance. One problem: we have a constitutional right to own a gun. No such protection to drive a car.
