I'm live at the Fresno Home Show this afternoon. Last night, the city of Fresno voted to place the issue of trash privatization on the ballot, a vote to be taken on June 4. I am against the idea since it will cost around $1 million to hold the election. I'm a conservative, but I'm not 100% on every conservative issue. I'm not on board on this issue. There are more things we need to focus upon. What it comes down to is: are you satisfied with your trash service? Most people are. It's a waste of time and energy to put this to a vote. |

Councilman Oliver Baines joined us live at the home show at the Fresno Fairgrounds. He voted against rescinding the decision to privatize trash (a 4-3 vote to keep the deal, with Baines being part of the three). He did vote (5-2) to put it on the ballot. Baines says the $1 million could be much better spent elsewhere. He tells a story of how the mayor's campaign against people signing a petition to put the trash issue to ballot. Baines says that actually made people aware of the issue that they were ignorant of. They asked Baines then how they too could sign the petition. |

Councilman Clint Olivier also stopped by the show, giving his thoughts on the issue. He also took calls on gas prices (he thinks they are too high) and running for the open state senate seat (he won't). Clint disagreed with Bill about the importance of the trash issue. Only two people at the council meeting spoke in favor of sending it to a ballot. Bill pressed him on the fact Clint is a "full time" councilman. Clint is proud that he works for the people. He said he doesn't work for the city, yet his paycheck says Fresno. Clint touted his taxi cab ordinance voted on Thursday, allowing drivers to stay in their vehicles for longer than the allotted seven years. |

Lompoc is the Central Coast town that houses Vandenberg Air Force Base. But is it pronounced Lom-POKE or Lom-POCK. We all know it's the former. But does Hollywood know? Check it this scene from this week's "Psych" on USA Network:
If you wonder why they always mention Lompoc in crime dramas, it's because it also houses a federal prison.
The ironic part is that "Psych" takes palce in Santa Barbara, only a half-hour or so south of Lompoc. And, I don't think the character, Shawn Spencer, purposely mispronounced the name. Shame for someone who lives in the same county and should know better.
